One of the things that has saved my bacon a few times this year has been my CLEAR membership.  Now you have the opportunity to try out a free CLEAR three-month trial.

What is CLEAR?

CLEAR helps speed up the security line experience at the airport because you can bypass the line for identification checks.  Instead of waiting to show your photo ID to a TSA agent, you instead use biometrics.  Your eyes and a fingerprint get you to the front of the line quickly!

Sign up is easy.  You can sign up for CLEAR online and then validate your biometrics at any airport with a CLEAR facility.  (No appointment is necessary and the entire on site process takes less than 10 minutes!)

CLEAR works easily – use your fingerprint or eyes to enter the secure area for your pre-flight security screening.

Why Would You Get CLEAR Instead of PreCheck?

CLEAR works on top of TSA PreCheck, so having both makes your security line wait even shorter.  I like using it in Seattle where the TSA PreCheck wait times can sometimes still be 10-15 minutes.  With CLEAR, I bypass that line and go straight to the front.

CLEAR and TSA PreCheck combined means a very fast trip through airport security.

Where is CLEAR?

CLEAR is presently available at 22 airports throughout the United States.

The current list includes:

  • Atlanta, GA
  • Austin, TX
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Dallas, TX (DFW)
  • Denver, CO
  • Detroit, MI
  • Houston, TX (both HOU and IAH)
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Miami, FL
  • Minneapolis, MN
  • New York, NY (HPN, JFK, and LGA)
  • Orlando, FL
  • San Antonio, TX
  • San Francisco, CA
  • San Jose, CA
  • Seattle, WA
  • Washington, D.C. (both DCA and IAD)

While CLEAR is not in all terminals at these airports, their presence seems to be expanding quickly.

How Much Does It Cost After the Free CLEAR Trial?

The annual standard membership for CLEAR is $15 per month but there are also discounts available.  I used one from Delta which offers a $99 membership to any member of the SkyMiles program.  Members with elite status or a SkyMiles credit card can pay only $79 and Delta SkyMiles Diamond Medallion members get a free annual membership.

Who is Eligible for CLEAR?

You must be 18 years of age or older to join CLEAR and membership is limited to those who have one of the following forms of identification (any of which must be valid, unexpired, not amended, and contain a photo):

  • Driver’s License from any US State
  • US Passport or Passport Card
  • US-issued Permanent Resident Card
  • State Issued ID
  • US Military ID

Children under 18 can use the CLEAR lane for free when accompanied by a family member with CLEAR and no enrollment is required for children.

CLEAR is also being used for season ticket holder admission now for some professional sports arenas in Denver, Miami, New York, and San Francisco.

You can sign up for the three months of free CLEAR here.

We aren’t certain how like the free CLEAR trial offer will be around but this link is still valid as of the time of posting.
