I love a good pancake. I also think that IHOP pancakes are pretty damned awesome for chain restaurant food. IHOP is usually open 24/7 and seems to be everywhere. As a result, I end up having an IHOP pancake party on the road a few times a year. This usually happens when I get into town late. Or need breakfast for dinner. Or just because I’m craving carbs. Often all three simultaneously.
I was pretty excited to get this email last week:
Our pancakes are having an anniversary and you’re invited to the party. Celebrate 59 years of classic IHOP pancakes Tuesday, July 18th from 7am – 7pm, with 59¢ short stacks.
Yes… IHOP pancakes are on sale tomorrow (July 18, 2017) only. I am sure it seems crazy, but I’m totally planning my dinner around this tomorrow night! They may not be quite as good as the pancakes I make at home, but they are comfort food!
I’ll get my 59 cent IHOP pancake fix and add something good. Maybe dinner (that Bacon Lovers menu has some good non-breakfast items or perhaps a Philly Cheese Steak Stacker with a side of onion rings). Or perhaps breakfast – a nice simple two-egg combo or a Californian Scramble. Or I could stumble back to my college days when we used to study at the one across the street from our campus. (We did that not only in college but grad school too!) Back then we’d always get a giant carafe of coffee and sometimes an Appetizer Sampler.
I’ve had some crazy memories while eating IHOP pancakes. Late night study sessions, early morning debriefing breakfasts, and road trip meals with family and friends. Heck, my craziest celebrity encounter even took place at one location. (It involved Tom Cruise and me mouthing off at him for cutting the line. Let’s just say I didn’t think it was actually him… and I may have called him a “Jerry Maguire wannabe”. It was 1997 so it was a totally valid cultural reference at that time!) I also parked myself there to watch the live reveal of American Airlines’ new livery design a few years back.
Whatever I get, I’m certain the IHOP pancake fix plus the chain restaurant food I so rarely eat will hit the spot. I was happy to find a location near the Hyatt Place where I’ll be staying. You can find IHOP locations using their handy store locator.
