I know a hotel stay won’t be dull when I’m greeted by a gentleman walking around the hotel lobby in his boxer shorts.  That was unexpected and also the first impression I had of the TownePlace Suites Richland Columbia Point.

As I would quickly learn, nothing about this property was in the realm of the “expected”.  And that is sometimes a good thing!

Arrival

Parking was plentiful near the hotel.  This property is located across the street from a Courtyard by Marriott where I stayed earlier this year.

Check In

Check in was quickly delivered by a friendly front desk clerk.  The only delay was my own response because my mouth was still hanging open from the boxer-clad guest.

I sensed a bit of whimsy from this property beyond the boxers – the lobby had bright red walls.

The lobby contained a few interesting décor elements including a large local map marking points of interest (great for guests to find their way around town).

The Room

I was assigned room 207 on the second floor.  While it was a small space, it was laid out well and tastefully furnished.  Features included comfortable bedding, a small sofa, desk set up, kitchenette, closet, and bathroom.

I loved the desk – the swing out component would make this a decent room to work from.

The hotel had marketing materials touting a partnership with The Container Store’s Elfa closet organization line.  I heart The Containter Store and they even have a loyalty program!

Unfortunately my room did not yet have the new closet set up.

The bathroom was small but clean.  The hairdryer was one of the best I’ve ever had in a chain hotel.

The kitchenette was small but functional.

Other Considerations

As with most suites hotels, the property had a small pantry selling frozen entrees, beverages, snacks, and sundries.

The hotel has a small business center off the main lobby.

Summary

I’ve been infatuated with suite-style hotels as of late and the TownePlace Suites provided another peek into this style of stay.  Whether I could feel SO at home that I’d venture to the lobby in my underwear is still up for debate.  But I’d definitely have no problem staying here for a few weeks on a project!
