Video: Southwest Reveals Its New Paint Scheme
In this video captured by Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter Andrea Ahles, Southwest reveals its new paint scheme to the hometown crowd at a maintenance hangar event today in Dallas.
While the livery design began to make sneak appearances online the past few days – and to many brings to mind Burger King and Hot Dog on a Stick branding comparisons – the reveal event itself shows that Southwest still has an eye towards edgy marketing campaigns.
They’ll need it.
The Wright Amendment (named after hometown politician Jim Wright, who sought to protect Fort Worth’s interests – and Braniff Airlines – when Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport opened in the early 1970s as an alternate airport to Dallas Love Field) is a mere month away from its long-awaited full repeal.
On October 10, Dallas-Fort Worth aviation enters a new era when Love Field opens to a wider range of travel as Southwest Airlines is finally able to expand service from its home airport. On October 13, Virgin America will move its area operation from DFW to Dallas Love and expand service to Washington Reagan and New York LaGuardia. Chicago will follow in February 2015. Virgin currently serves Los Angeles and San Francisco with a total of six flights a day. The current plan is to triple to 18 daily flights by April 2015.
Locals meanwhile are standing by to see if competition out of Love Field has a long-term effect on prices out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport where American Airlines remains the dominant carrier from the hub.
