I flew through Seattle yesterday on an American Airlines from Dallas-Fort Worth so that I could connect to a regional connection on Alaska Airline/Horizon Air. As I listened to the conversation of a couple of other elite-level travelers in first class who were grumbling about the lack of an Admirals Club in Seattle, I was able to remind them of additional privileges that are not widely advertised.
Admirals Club members can use the Alaska Airlines Board Rooms in Anchorage, Portland, and Seattle provided you have a same-day flight that is both ticketed on/operated by American Airlines. (American codeshares on Alaska or Alaska codeshares on American don’t count so if you are given the option to book a codeshare, this is an important consideration if you need lounge access!)
The Board Rooms are nice with substantial food options available at all times of the day (for example, a pancake machine in the mornings and soup in the afternoons/evenings) and up to three complimentary alcoholic beverages, including a couple of regional craft beer selections. (They also mix a wicked Bloody Mary in Seattle!) While seating can be tight when its crowded, the club offers free Wi-Fi and many power outlets for recharging electronics.
Access requires both a valid boarding pass and your Admirals Club card as they do not have the ability to look up membership details easily and telephone verification of membership is only possible when the front desk is not busy as well as when the Admirals Club membership is open (those hours are more limited than the Board Room hours so you may be left standing outside). You are also welcome to bring in up to two guests or immediate family members who are also traveling with you at no additional charge.
Have you used the Board Room with your Admirals Club membership? What did you think?
