Earn 5,000 Alaska Mileage Plan Miles
I’m normally a fan of signing up for loyalty programs just in case. But today an Alaska Mileage Plan offer came across my mailbox that negates that theory.
This offer does not appear to be targeted. It allows one to earn 5,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles for a new account sign up before April 30, 2017. The bonus miles require only one qualifying flight before September 30, 2017.
New members can sign up via this link.
The qualifying flight can be taken on Alaska or Virgin America. Codeshare flights are not eligible (either on Alaska or Virgin America metal or with their flight numbers on other carriers). Individuals may only receive the bonus once, even if they hold multiple Alaska Mileage Plan accounts.

if my friend flies with me on Alaska Airline on a companion fare of $99, will he receive the 5k bonus?
If the fare is eligible to earn miles, if he does not yet have a mileage account, and if he signs up/meets the other criteria then yes, he should. It would be worth a call to Alaska to check though if that is a deal-breaker.
So, I have to create an account and then book a flight to earn the points?
Yes… there is always some kind of tiny catch!
