Getting out the door for a trip can be difficult for me. I’m usually packing my suitcase while taking a conference call (and sometimes also trying to put on my makeup) so I need as little hassle as possible. Having a travel uniform makes my life easier (especially when I’m struggling to get an Uber!)

I find that layers work best for spring travel, particularly as temperatures can vary 30 to 40 degrees between destinations.  I also like to be comfortable.  Alas my work dress code dictates that I be dressed at least business casual when traveling.  Unlike the guys, I have to put a bit of thought into what that means.  Having a travel uniform makes my airport days somewhat less stressful.  When I have an early morning flight, its just grab and go!

My favorite base piece of the moment is this Vince Camuto sleeveless top.  I’ve purchased it in several colors but black is my favorite.  It looks great untucked but can also be tucked into a skirt or pants for a clean suiting look.  On days when I am flying early or late, I can switch from travel casual to business just by changing bottoms out.

I layer on a loose fit cardigan.  My favorite one of the moment is a grey cashmere cardigan that I kept from one of my Trunk Club shipments.  It looks somewhat like this one

On the bottom, I love NYDJ’s Alina legging jeans.  These have a slim skinny fit but enough stretch to make wearing them on the airplane comfortable.  And when I get out of my seat after a transcon flight, they aren’t stretched out so I look polished when I arrive at my destination.

Finally, I need an easy slip-on shoe.  While I love my Tiek flats, I actually need a bit of a heel for walking around in the airport.  I’m still clinging to winter since we didn’t have much of one in Texas so I’m all about booties.  I’ve been rotating several pairs but my favorite at the moment is a Dolce Vita black suede one like this:

The best part of all four of these pieces is that I can mix them in with the other items in my bag throughout my trip.  The cardigan is a nice neutral with my dresses but equally comfortable for lounging in the room.  The tops go with everything and the jeans become my go-to in the evenings.  The bootie looks great with a dress or skirt to dress down a workday outfit for after business drinks or dinner.

I seem to rotate my travel uniform frequently depending on what my current favorite pieces are.  But these classics may be a base staple for some time.
