Overcoming Jet Lag – the Weekly Update
I may have been a bit smug a couple of weeks ago when I landed in Spain and hit the ground running without jet lag.
Yep, definitely smug. Enough so that I ignored my usual routine of trying to at least time my sleep to adjust (with or without a tool like Jet Lag Rooster) when I decided to fly home via Doha. I found myself instead trying to cobble together a recovery plan after I realized mid-week that I was not doing well – after the fourth straight day of an early evening nap and subsequent 3:30 am insomnia, I realized I had a problem.
I’ve now had six nights in my own bed and I’ve resisted the nap (or early bedtime) so I’m slowly getting back in the swing of it… but I’ve also sucked down a ton of water, eaten smaller lighter meals, done some yoga, and even pulled an acupuncture session all with the intent of recovering.
I’m slowly getting there.
I am working through my write ups for the Grand Mediterranean cruise and associated travels. Yesterday I posted a review of our Italy port tours with Rome In Limo (three of the busiest days of touring that I’ve done in years). I’ve been a bit slow to post content for two reasons – 1) I’m still catching up at work and have been putting in my hours there. 2) We are still having persistent malware issues with the Boarding Area websites.
That second one is very frustrating… and I know the Boarding Area team is doing everything they can to fix the problem which seems to be coming from advertisers on the network. The advertising pays for the cost of my hosting and site work (although it won’t be a reason for me to ever quit my day job) so they are doing everything they can to work with the ad networks to identify the problem. And I honestly love being hosted – I don’t have the technical skill (or time) to manage all the things that go into maintaining a professional site. This lets me direct my energy to what I like best – writing (and doing the travel that leads to the writing).
As long as its ongoing, however, I’m going to be limiting my posting to what I can do from my iPad (which means I also get the weird sideways photos occasionally) or my burner laptop (which I don’t travel with). So as long as this continues, my posting activity will be limited to when I have free time on the weekends or an occasional free evening. I’ll try my best to try to queue up some content in advance, but I don’t know when I’ll return to a more regular posting schedule for now.
I am trying to decide what to tackle next – so perhaps a little poll will help me focus my efforts?
What part of my Grand Mediterranean trip report should I tackle next?
- The flights (British Airways/Qatar Airways). (67%, 2 Votes)
- The cruise itself (NCL Spirit). (33%, 1 Votes)
- More tour reviews. (0%, 0 Votes)
- The food. (0%, 0 Votes)
- What credit card was used. (haha... just kidding) (0%, 0 Votes)

Around the homestead, its almost fall. I’ve been doing a bit of “fall cleaning” to weed through the plethora of boxes clogging my spare space – closing an office (and moving out of it plus our off-site storage facility) has meant a lot of random things coming home to live with me. Add to that my propensity to “collect” things and not cull them periodically and we have a potentially problematic situation. I’m setting goals to work through it in small chunks. Today’s goal was to fill my recycle cart and also create a clear path to my sewing machine. Mission accomplished!
I’ve got another week without travel so after a long trip, I’m overjoyed to have the luxury of two weeks at home. Hopefully my productive streak will continue now that the jet lag is almost gone.
