[slide]A recent late night arrival into Wichita necessitated a hotel room where I could recharge before driving elsewhere in the state the following day. I selected the Hyatt Regency Wichita based on past visits and was pleased to find an up-to-date Midwestern gem awaiting me.
I arrived at the hotel at almost midnight having taken the last flight in from DFW. I waited several minutes for a bellman to appear for valet parking before deciding to turn off the car and take the keys inside to the front desk. Once there, they were glad to issue me a valet ticket and assure me the car would be parked. Check in was quick and I was assigned a room on a high floor.
The hotel is an old-style tower hotel. I was assigned room 1711 on a high floor.
Rooms are spacious and decorated in a modern style. My room was in pristine condition and used space efficiently. It is apparent that the hotel has remodeled rooms.
Lighting was good and the air conditioning worked effectively to cool down a room that was very warm when I arrived. I was a bit disappointed to see that the room did not have a desk but instead contained a table with two chairs – this was not the most efficient set up should my trip have required working extensively. There were dedicated plugs at the bedside which made it easy to plug in and recharge electronic devices.
The bathroom was relatively spacious with a shower/tub combo and a large single sink/vanity area.
The hotel does not have a club lounge but offers a full breakfast in the downstairs restaurant, Harvest Kitchen/Bar. The restaurant specializes in farm-to-table cuisine and has been a regular lunch stop for me when in Wichita even while not staying at the Hyatt. Breakfast was served buffet style from red Le Creuset casseroles for hot selections that included eggs, bacon, chicken-apple sausage, as well as oatmeal and griddled specialties. The hotel also offered an omelet station with the full breakfast option. The continental breakfast included a large selection of fresh berries, other seasonal fruit, several cereal choices, and freshly baked muffin tops along with other breakfast breads. This was one of the best value Hyatt breakfast buffets I’ve seen in the US.
Checkout was relatively quick. While a bill was not presented under my door, the front desk staff was efficient when checking me out while I waited for my valet parked car.
This was a great hotel stay given my late time of arrival into Wichita. My stay was too short to check out other hotel amenities given the updated condition of the rest of the property, I’d expect to find them in good order. I had a good night of sleep, followed by a filing breakfast that held me over through lunch too! I would not hesitate to insist on staying at this property again on my next visit to town.
