I’m always on the hunt for healthy snacks that I can throw in my purse and carry on the road. Ideally, snacks can’t easily be crushed (when I shove my purse into my tote to board a flight and then try to cram that under a seat, things tend to break!) and are nutritious.
I was intrigued by Graze.com – a service that sends you hand-picked individually packaged snacks in a weekly or bi-weekly box. I had an offer to try a box for free, so I decided to give it a try. I filled out my profile online and had the opportunity to see the range of snacks that they might send me.
The profile begins with all snacks marked as fair game for shipments (TRY) but allows you to mark any snacks you know definitively that you would not like to receive (TRASH) as well. This is great for those with food allergies or known preferences and a search tool allows one to quickly trash all snacks with certain ingredients (wonderful for allergy sufferers).
As each box is received and tried, recipients are encouraged to go back and rate the snacks they tried as LOVE, LIKE, or TRASH. The company uses a predictive analytics model to determine what to send you in future shipments.
I’ve now received eight shipments and have noticed that each shipment has inched closer to all likes and loves in the later boxes.
I’ve discovered that I particularly love the Flapjacks (small homemade granola bar type snacks that taste freshly baked) and Dippers (various items that come with something to dip them in – apple slices with caramel sauce, for example). Scrumptious Blueberry Swirl was a favorite of mine (dried fruit and yogurt-covered pieces) and made for a healthy sweet treat.
Boxes are $6 each (shipping included) so that works out to $1.50 per snack. It’s a little expensive for everyday snacking at home. But these come pre-portioned in their own plastic containers and those have been able to withstand the rigors of travel in my bag so this is a winning snack solution and certainly less expensive than what I might purchase in an airport.
If you’d like to test drive Graze, you can use this referral code to sample your first box for free (with no future obligation). If you stay with it through four boxes, you also get your fifth box free. (Full disclosure – I receive $1 in Graze credit for each referral .)
If you have tried Graze, what are some of your LOVE and TRASH items?
